Friday, September 21
Friday is open to explore DC. If you are staying at the hotel, some suggested sites to visit would be the Iwo Jima Memorial, the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial, or the National Mall (this is where a majority of the monuments are located). All are an easy cab or Uber ride. I will be at the hotel to begin distributing coins.

White House Tour- 0930
0800: We will meet at Pershing Park. This is located at the intersection of 15th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. With the size of our group, I don’t expect everyone to make it to the park at exactly 0800. We will need to proceed to the White House NO LATER THAN 0840. This will allow time for multiple Metro rides. If you are taking the Metro, info is listed below. If you are riding or otherwise using a different mode of transport, you are on your own for parking. The visitor’s entrance is located across the street from Pershing Park.
Metro Line: You will need to take the ORANGE line. From the hotel, there is a Metro station located approximately 2 blocks away on Ft. Myer Dr. This is the same road the hotel is located on. You will get off at Metro Center Station (intersection of 13 St and G St). The Metro is about a 15-minute ride. Proceed 2 blocks towards the White House to 15th St. Turn left and walk two blocks to Pershing Park. The ORANGE line runs every 12 minutes starting at 7am on Saturdays. The cost will $2.25.
The Capital tour begins at 12:40. There are several ways to get to the Capital. You are free to proceed however you like. We will meet again at the intersection of First St NE and E Capital St NE (this is BEHIND the Capital building).
Walking: It is approximately 1.5 miles from the White House to the Capital. The easiest way is to proceed directly down Pennsylvania Ave.
Bus: If you would like to take the bus, you will need to go to the stop located at Pennsylvania Ave and 14th St. You will take #32 bus. You will exit at Independence Ave and S Capital St. You will then walk ½ a block to First St and meet us at the designated intersection stated above. Bus fare is $2.
Arlington National Cemetery- 6:15pm
Our time slot for the wreath presentation is 6:15pm. I would like us in place at the Tomb by 5:45. It is about 3.5 miles from the Capital to the Arlington welcome center so I don’t suggest walking. You can expect it to take about 45 minutes to clear security. Below are some suggested modes of transportation. If you are riding, parking at Arlington is $2/hr.
Metro: From the Capital, proceed to the Capital Metro Station located at the intersection of D St and First St SE. You will take the BLUE line all the way to Arlington. Fare is $2.20 and total travel time is approximately 30 minutes.
Uber: Uber is very reliable within DC. I suggest downloading the app before this event and understand how it works.
****While I have been to DC several times, I have never used the Metro system. I cannot confirm the reliability of the times or fare amounts. All information was taken directly from the WMATA website.
