Larry honorably served as the first African-American to join the City of Kissimmee Fire Department. Hired on May 3, 1976 by Chief Arlo Lawrence, Larry served 32 joyous years as a Kissimmee Firefighter. Born in Ocala to Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Brown, Larry was the youngest of six children. He lived across from the Florida State Fire College and as a child he always knew he wanted to be a firefighter. Larry was quickly promoted to Fire Engineer in 1980. His fine accomplishments were recently recognized as he was named Kissimmee's Employee of the Year in 2007 as well as the 2007 Osceola County Firefighter of the Year.. Larry established the first Honor Guard for the Kissimmee Fire Department and served as its Commander. He is survived by four children, Marlon, Vonetta, Kyler and Kristy & 9 grandchildren, sisters Alice Lewis, Hilda Cox and brothers John, Raymond and Curtis
